Agents of the National Police have dismantled a criminal group specialized in cloning sports vehicles. The agents have arrested ten of its members - who were based in the provinces of Madrid and Ciudad Real - and have recovered ten vehicles valued at more than 300,000 euros. They acquired damaged vehicles of a specific model at low cost to use their chassis and identifying elements, and later assemble the body and engine of sports cars of similar appearance that they had previously stolen.
The investigation began when the agents learned of the theft of numerous competition vehicles in the Community of Madrid. To carry out the thefts of the passenger cars, those investigated used different tools of the latest technology, specifically electronic devices that violate the Industry Email List security systems of the vehicles. The actions of the criminal group fell on a specific sports-type vehicle model, which had to have very similar aesthetic characteristics with vehicles that they had acquired in accidents and on which they would later mount both the bodywork and the engine of the stolen high-end vehicles.
The stolen vehicles were dismantled to assemble their parts on the chassis of damaged vehicles, the repair of which was economically unfeasible, also using the physical identification elements (frame numbers) and documents (license plates and driving permits) of the latter, providing appearance of legality to the stolen sports vehicles. In this way, the cars passed periodic inspections at service stations without raising any suspicion and could sell them second-hand for the price that the sports model would have in that market.
Thanks to the police efforts carried out, the agents detected one of the vehicles that was hidden in the basement of a building in the Madrid district of Puente de Vallecas. Likewise, they located a mechanical workshop open to the public, in the province of Toledo, which was being used to hide and subsequently dismantle the stolen cars. After inspecting said workshop, where the agents found numerous parts belonging to the stolen vehicles, they arrested the people involved in the events.
Finally, investigators have arrested 10 members of the criminal organization as allegedly responsible for the crimes of belonging to a criminal group, vehicle theft, reception, fraud and falsification of documents, although the investigation remains open and new arrests are not ruled out. On the other hand, the agents have so far clarified 10 criminal acts and have recovered 10 vehicles whose value amounts to more than euros.
